During Paul’s time as District Attorney, the violent crime rate has decreased by 70%.
Before he took office 23 years ago, the crime rate in Atlanta was astronomical. Violent crime had steadily increased over the past decade. Paul promised to halt the rise and make communities safer. Under his leadership, violent crime has dropped dramatically. Homicide and rape as well as sex trafficking and crimes against women and children – all have declined thanks to Paul’s promise to transform the Fulton County criminal justice department.
Paul’s innovative community-level partnerships have become models for prosecution.
Paul is a visionary whose ideas have transformed the criminal justice department. His innovative approach to prosecution extends beyond the courthouse into communities by building partnerships among prosecutors, police, public and private organizations and community members. It’s a collaborative approach held up as a model for criminal justice departments everywhere.
Paul has fostered numerous youth programs to educate the criminal justice leaders of tomorrow.
Our kids deserve a leader in the justice department who is thinking about their future. Someone with a proven vision for the next generation of criminal justice. Someone like Paul Howard. Youth programs implemented during his tenure include Junior District Attorney, Project Legal Lives, Perkerson Reading Program, Partnership for Perfect Attendance, Project Turn Around and Teen Court. These hands-on programs in civics and law help ensure a safer tomorrow for us all.
